Students will be required to read 20 minutes at home each day and fill out a reading log (provided in the homework folder each week; this reading log will also be updated weekly with progress towards the AR trimester reading goal). Each student will have a book bag with two class books and occasionally sight words lists and small reading group books to practice. These homework folders will be turned in each week on Fridays.
NO SPELLING WORDS for the rest of the school year (End-of-the-Year Assessments instead)
After the Fall
We will be working on our end-of-the-year writing assessments, as well as our reading assessments. Keep working on those AR goals!

GREAT JOB ON YOUR COMMUNITY SERVICE PRESENTATIONS!!! If there are any of you who were not able to complete your projects, there is still time. Honestly, service that is completed late is still better than service that is never done at all. It is not about the presentation only (though we have been BLESSED by all that the kids put together and showed). It is about training our hearts and lives to be thoughtfully in the service of others. Bless you all!
Please keep in mind that there are so many opportunities to be in service to others. As you complete community service, please remember to snap some pictures and write down what you are doing. These hours can all go towards your Community Service Project due in May. Be sure to check out the Community Service information section below. During the 2023 - 2024 school year we will be ROARing as part of our continued positive behavior intervention program. ROAR stands for: Respecting self, others & property, Owning our actions, Acting safely, and Rising to servant leadership. We know that we are raising our future adults and leaders, so we will teach our students to ROAR with confidence. We also are introducing our kids to "The 8 Key Strategies" for success in life.
1. Vision Toward a Goal - GOAL
2. Want To/Have To - BEHAVIOR/MENTAL STATE
3. Growth/Fixed Mindset - MINDSET
4. 80/20 Rule - BALANCE
5. Circle of Control/No Control - INTERNAL POWER
6. Who Showed Up - DECISIONS
7. The Prepared Student - ACTION
8. The Path - FOUNDATION
1. Read 20 minutes each day and fill out the Reading Log
2. Show Behavior Calendar colored in each day to your parents

GOOD NEWS! This year our first grade students will get to complete 6-8 community service hours to Rise to Servant Leadership (the last letter in our leadership acronym ROAR). The past few years have halted so many service opportunities (while inspiring others); we are thrilled we get to actively challenge ourselves to bless others again. We know that many of you have service to others built into your family’s schedule; you may have already completed several community service hours without even realizing it. For others, this will be an incredible opportunity to push yourselves out of your comfort zone. You have the next 8 months to carve out the 6-8 hours, due in early May. These can be completed all at once in one big project or spread apart into multiple smaller projects. Thank you for doing the best you can. Once the kids complete their hours, they will need to make a presentation that they will present to the class. The presentation should tell us about their community service project(s) and all about their experience. Pictures and drawings with labels and descriptions are GREAT! We look forward to seeing how our students give back!

So excited to be one of the teachers here from the very beginning, Pryor now is in her 27th year of teaching, her 17th at ILCS. She absolutely loves teaching first grade, also having taught many years in middle school (and one in 5th). She has a passion for the Lord, her husband and two exquisite children (an INCREDIBLE adoption story!), her students, photography, running, singing, bringing stories to life, and encouraging others.
